Brutus Armor-Julius Caesar

I was the “armor specialist” for Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar so I was involved in multiple armor sets for our production.  It was a very exciting project because It was the first time I had whipped out my blacksmithing skills for costuming rather than props. I made this armor with 18 gauge steel, leather and a bit of paint! This armor had to be quick rigged so Brutus could shed it and “run on” the knife/sword for her suicide.

First Fitting

Penned in the style lines for the fluting

Rolled Edges

Rolled edges stiffen the breast plate and also keep the edges from cutting or hurting the actor.

Fluting

that 3d lines are called fluting. In battle it not only looks cool but it also makes the armor stronger.

Gorget

made of leather, paint and the goats and lines motifs are free-handed.
